The subterfuge worked. Two armed escort trawlers were then quickly sunk, followed by nine of the 12 ships of the convoy. It was a stunning success. Brummer was one of eight light cruisers that started to scuttle with the High Seas Fleet in 1919. Of those eight, three were beached and the Bremse was subsequently salvaged, but the remaining four: Dresden; Cöln; Karlsruhe; and Brummer still lie on the bottom of Scapa Flow.
