1 Organizational Learning and Knowledge Management in Projects We looked at how organizations learn in general. How do they learn speciﬁcally from Literature Survey 43 projects? How does knowledge created get distributed around the organization? This section will look at these questions, when they are not covered elsewhere in the report. It is also worth noting that Bosch-Sijtsema (2002) give a good literature review of knowledge transfer, and Morris and Loch (2004a) include a literature review of best practices in organizational learning through projects.
It will be seen that a key reason for including a larger group is to help to explore root causes or systemic effects. 3, but it is worth noting here one particular technique that arises in a number of these discussions: the use of mapping or similar structuring methods to explore or explicate systemicity. In the Ericsson methods (Brander-Löf, Hilger, and André 2000), a post-it session and mapping were used in the project review meeting. Venugopal and Baets’ (1995) discussion of intelligent support systems for organizational learning describe different “IT tools” including cognitive mapping.
Abramovici (1999) uses open and facilitated brain-storming sessions.
