For researchers in the fields of psychology, that is an important and very extensive volume of publications, references to which cannot be retrieved through the CBI. It remains to be added, in this context, that the national bibliographies referred to above offer directly or indirectly both an author title and a subject approach. Besides the national bibliographies there exist also printed book form catalogues of national and other large research libraries. This type of reference work is particularly valuable for those wanting to prepare themselves for studies in other parts of the world, since consultation will throw some light on the holdings they may expect in the overseas institutions where they want to study.

An extensive reviewing section which includes books in German and other languages, accompanies the bibliographical supplement which is based on German journals and serial publications. In 1938 the bibliographical supplement ceased again and was not continued in this journal. Instead a continuation is being published in the Zeitschrift für experimentelle und angewandte Psychologie since 1965. The gap 1942-60 has been closed by Wellek, whose work is discussed on p. 14. The latest reference series to be established in the field of psychology is the Psychological reader's guide, which follows the pattern of the Current contents series which have been so well received in many other fields of scientific research.
